Check your text in three steps

1

Paste your passage

Use a complete passage with at least 300 characters. Keep the surrounding context so the analysis has more to work with.

2

Run an AI check

Sign in and select Detect AI. The tool analyzes the writing and returns an overall Human Score.

3

Review in context

Read the score alongside the draft. Consider how the text was researched, written, and edited before drawing conclusions.

Understand the result

A signal for review, with context that matters

The Human Score runs from 0 to 100. A higher result means the passage more closely resembles human writing; a lower result suggests AI-like patterns. It does not measure how many words came from a person, identify a specific AI model, or verify the facts in your text.

Before you act on a score

  • Both false positives and false negatives are possible.
  • Short excerpts provide less context than complete passages.
  • Edited or mixed-authorship writing may produce ambiguous results.
  • Use drafts, citations, and a conversation with the writer to support your review.

Make room for a thoughtful review

For writers

Check a draft as part of your editing process. Revisit generic language and make sure the final piece reflects your ideas and sources.

For editors

Use an initial signal to guide a closer read. Verify claims, source quality, and editorial standards independently.

For educators

Start a discussion about writing process and permitted assistance. A detector score alone should not establish misconduct.

AI Detector questions, answered

Understand the tool, its limits, and your results.

What is an AI detector?

An AI detector analyzes writing patterns to estimate whether a passage resembles AI-generated or human-written text. This tool uses Winston AI to return a Human Score. It does not identify the author or prove which writing tool was used.

How do I interpret my Human Score?

The score ranges from 0 to 100. Higher scores indicate more human-like writing patterns and lower scores indicate more AI-like patterns. The score describes the overall assessment, not the percentage of words written by a human. Read the passage in context before drawing conclusions.

Can an AI detector be wrong?

Yes. Human writing can be flagged as AI-generated, and AI-generated writing can receive a high Human Score. Short passages and edited or mixed-authorship text can be difficult to assess. Compare the result with drafts, source material, and the writer's explanation rather than relying on a score alone.

Do I need an account to check text?

You can explore this page and prepare your text without an account. Sign in or create an account to run a check. Free accounts have limited checks, and daily and monthly allowances depend on your plan and are shared across AI detection, grammar, and plagiarism tools.

How much text can I check?

Each check accepts between 300 and 150,000 characters. Use at least 600 characters of continuous prose for a more informative result. A complete passage gives the detector more context than a single sentence.

Is AI detection the same as plagiarism checking?

No. AI detection looks for patterns associated with generated writing. Plagiarism checking looks for overlap with other sources. A low AI signal does not establish originality, factual accuracy, or correct citations.

What happens to the text I submit?

When you run a check, your text is sent through our server to Winston AI for analysis. Account usage is recorded to enforce plan limits. If you use this tool's sign-in link, a temporary draft is saved in this browser tab and removed when you return. Avoid submitting confidential material and review our privacy policy before use.
